ABUSE OF ELDER
OR DEPENDENT ADULT - 368 P.C.

The State of California considers those persons age 65 and older to be elders. Those persons between ages 18 and 64 who have physical or mental limitations that restrict their ability to carry out normal activities or to protect their rights, are considered dependent adults.

The Sheriff's Elder Abuse Unit is the centralized investigative unit responsible for the investigation of crimes committed against elders and dependent adults within the nine contract cities and unincorporated areas of San Diego County served by the Sheriff's Department.

In conjunction with Adult Protective Services and other community and advocacy based organizations the Elder Abuse Unit is committed to the successful prosecution of those committing crimes against elders and dependent adults.
