Assistant Sheriff Al Guerin joined the San Diego
County Sheriff’s Department in 1981.
He currently oversees the Detentions Services Bureau.
Guerin began his law enforcement career with the San
Diego Police Department in 1974.
Guerin
started at the San Diego County Sheriff's
Department as a Lateral Deputy Sheriff. He
was promoted to Sergeant in 1991, Lieutenant
in 1997, Captain in 2003, Commander in 2006, and Assistant
Sheriff in 2006.
Guerin is on the Board of
Directors for two non-profit organizations. He is a Founding Director for Angel’s Depot and
serves as Treasurer for the San Diego County
Memorial Wake Foundation.
Guerin has received
many departmental and civic awards and commendations. He
was awarded the Medal of Valor from the American Legion for his
participation in a SWAT operation.
Guerin holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management.
Assistant Sheriff Guerin is a second-generation law
enforcement officer. He is a third-generation San Diego native.
