Commander Gigi McCalla serves the Law Enforcement Services Bureau, and her responsibilities include the Emergency Services Division which includes ASTREA,
Bomb Arson, Search and Rescue(SAR), Canines, Reserves, Emergency Planning and SED/SWAT as well as Licensing, Crime Lab,
Property and Evidence, the Communication Center and Information Lead Policing (SADLE, Intel/Crime Analysts, Traffic Coordinator) as well as volunteers such as the
Senior Volunteer Program and Explorers.
Prior to her current assignment, Commander McCalla served as the Commander of the Human Resource Services Bureau. In that capacity, she oversaw one of the largest
recruitment efforts in the department’s history.
As a Sheriff’s Captain, she served as the station commander of the Lemon Grove Patrol Station and acted as
the “Chief of Police” to the city of Lemon Grove as well as the unincorporated communities of Rancho San Diego, Spring Valley,
El Cajon, La Mesa and Jamul.
Commander McCalla has been with the County of San Diego since December 1984. She feels privileged to have served in her many
assignments which include the Detention Services Bureau (San Diego Central Jail, Las Colinas & George Bailey Detention
Facility) the Human Resource Services Bureau assigned to Internal Affairs and Background Investigations as well as the
Law Enforcement Services Bureau including patrol and investigations in Lemon Grove Station, Santee Station, Imperial
Beach Station and Alpine Substation.
Commander McCalla currently is the PERT (Psychiatric Emergency Response Team) liaison for the department as well as
serving the last 25 years as an Explorer Advisor in the San Diego County Law Enforcement Explorer Advisors’
Association representing the Sheriff’s Department Exploring Program.
Commander McCalla graduated from the FBI National Academy class of 228 in 2007. She holds a Bachelor of Science
degree in Criminal Justice and a Master of Arts degree in Management.
