Commander Mike McNally is assigned to the Law Enforcement
Services Bureau. He oversees Area 2 which includes the Encinitas, Poway, Ramona and 4S
Ranch stations, Communications Division, Central Investigations
Division, Community Policing, Crime Prevention, Crime Analysis, and
Honor Guards.
McNally began his career in law enforcement in 1984. He worked
in detentions
before moving to law enforcement. He served at the
Poway Station as a patrol deputy, training officer, and detective.
In 1993, he was promoted to Sergeant and worked at the George Bailey
Detention Facility. He was assigned to coordinate an information
technology project - the Jail Information Management System (JIMS) - a
system which automated many of the department's detention functions. He was also assigned to the
San Marcos Station and led the detective division. He served as
Acting Lieutenant at the Communications Center. He was transferred
to the Santee Station and briefly to Search and Rescue.
In 2001, McNally was promoted to Lieutenant. He was
assigned to the George Bailey Detention
Facility, managing operations support and administration,
led the Standards and Compliance Unit and Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving Unit.
In 2005, McNally was promoted to Captain, assigned to the
Communications Center.
In 2008, McNally was promoted to Commander.
McNally is Vice-Chair of the Regional Communications System's Board
of Directors. He is a board
member of the San Diego County Alcohol Policy Panel.
Commander McNally holds a Bachelor of Science in Information
Systems from University
of Redlands.
He graduated from
the FBI National Academy
in Quantico, Virginia in 2004. He also graduated from the Senior
Management Institute for Police (SMIP) at Boston University in 2008.
