Brian Sampson joined the San Diego County Sheriff's Department in
2002. He joined the Sheriff's Executive Management Team as Support
Services Director in August 2003. He is responsible for three diverse
business units including the Facility Planning and Maintenance, Fleet
Management, and Criminal Records and Identification.
Sampson and his staff plan new facilities, provide maintenance to two-million square feet of department improvements, maintain
over 1,300 department vehicles, and process half-a-million records annually.
He oversees a staff of over one-hundred and is responsible for a combined
annual budget totaling $60 million.
Sampson is a member of the Sheriff’s Executive Management Team
and the Sheriff’s Operational Planning Committee, providing
recommendations concerning promotions, reviewing major projects and
programs, revising department policies and procedures, and developing
department-wide plans for the five-year financial forecast. He also
serves as a member of the Awards and Recognition Board.
Prior to his current position, Sampson joined the department as a
Project Manager, focusing on real estate issues
and long term planning.
Sampson has over 30 years of technical and management
experience in the public and private sectors and is committed to
developing solutions to meet the department’s immediate and long term
needs.Sampson has worked for the County of San Diego since 1997.
He began with General Services as a Senior Real Property Agent. He
received an honorable award for leasing the Old Central Jail for $25 million over
15 years. He also received an Extraordinary Achievement Award for initiating the sale of
surplus county property for $17 million.
Before joining the County of San Diego, Sampson worked for a national
financial institution for 10 years, achieving the position of Vice
President of Appraisals. He started his career with the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers as an Economist and Appraiser, completing socio-economic
studies and benefit-cost analysis for proposed projects.
Mr. Sampson holds two Bachelor's degrees in Economics and Sociology
from San Diego State University. He also completed a certificate program in Management Development from the University of California Riverside.
He later earned his teaching credential and is a Real Estate Broker. In 2006, he completed the Senior Management Institute for Police
Academy.
