eCrime Reporting Update
Effective August 1, 2015, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department has discontinued its use of the eCrime online reporting tool. Site visitors wanting to report a crime or other public safety incident are encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Communications Center at (858) 565-5200 for assistance.
The eCrime tool was originally established to allow site visitors to report very minor crimes, often for the purpose of meeting insurance reporting requirements. Over time, we have seen increased attempts to report serious crimes and in-progress events using the eCrime system, purposes for which it was never intended.
At the same time, the Sheriff’s Department’s initiative toward “Intelligence Led Policing” has made it necessary to integrate timely, verified information into our records system in order to help drive our public safety strategies. eCrime did not integrate well for that purpose.
Until such time that an alternative online reporting system can be developed, please call our Communications Center at (858) 565-5200 to report any crime or public safety concern you may have.
