I want to…

Map and view crime and arrests near an address or location.

The Sheriff’s Department shares crime and arrest data with the Automated Regional Justice Information System, known as ARJIS.  Information from throughout the region is available through Crime MAPS, an online map service hosted by ARJIS, complete with how-to information.  The Sheriff’s Law Enforcement Services Bureau provides comprehensive services to nine contract cities and the unincorporated areas of San Diego County.

See crime rates for cities across San Diego County.

The crime rate is the number of FBI Part 1 Index crimes per thousand residents in a city.   Residential population varies widely across the cities in our region.  It is not adjusted for business, education, entertainment, sports and tourism centers, though these activities bring people together and increase the opportunity for crime to occur.

Get crime statistics for a city or area in San Diego County.

With data shared from its member agencies, ARJIS provides the Crime Stats Reports application with online instructions.  When you “Select Agency” choose County Sheriff, select the city or area of your choice, then create the report.

Access public safety statistics and research for our region.

The San Diego Association of Governments, SANDAG, has a Public Safety program that provides statistics and research support for policy development and review.  Reports and updates are posted regularly on the SANDAG site.

Connecting data to decisions by joining criminology theory and criminal justice practice… Crime analysts evaluate crime, disorder and associated factors in support of Law Enforcement Services Bureau efforts to prevent, intervene and suppress criminal activity.  Our analysts employ a broad array of data and current analysis and mapping technologies to identify trends and patterns and to associate crimes with offenders.

The Sheriff’s Crime Analysis Unit is comprised of a manager and two senior crime analysts at the Ridgehaven offices who focus on resource coordination and strategic analysis, and seven crime analysts deployed to area stations providing operational and tactical analysis products.   For additional information, please contact Crime Analysis Manager Kurt Smith, (858) 974-2662.
